Company Address Guide: Home Addresses, Several Companies at One Address and Address Changes

One of the first decisions when you set up a company in Turkey is the address: it is registered with the trade registry, the tax office inspects the business there and official correspondence goes there. This guide answers four common questions: what a registered address is, whether a limited company can use a home address, whether several companies can share one address, and how to change a company address.

It is general information, not legal or tax advice; confirm your own situation with your accountant.

Short answer

A company address (registered or legal address) is the head office address registered with the trade registry and reported to the tax office. A limited company can generally use a home address, subject to conditions such as the landlord’s consent, the building’s management plan and the address becoming public. Several companies can be registered at one address, each with its own agreement. An address change takes a company resolution, registration with the trade registry and an update of the tax office record.

1. What is a company address (registered address)?

The company address, often called the legal or registered address, is the head office address registered with the trade registry. Your tax office record, the start-of-business inspection and official notifications follow this address, and it appears on your invoices and official documents. Because the province and district of the head office are also written in the articles of association, the address is a decision that takes formal steps to change later.

Three options are commonly used as a company address:

OptionWhen it suitsWhat to check
Home addressOne-person businesses that do not receive clientsBuilding management plan, landlord’s consent, the address becoming public
Virtual officeBusinesses that do not need a physical office and want to keep their home address privateWhether the activity suits a virtual office, inspection arrangements
Ready office or your own officeTeams, client visits, regular workContract term, suitability for business use

2. Can a limited company use a home address?

Generally yes; a home can be registered as a limited company’s head office, and many small companies start this way. There are conditions to check, though: the landlord’s consent if you rent, any rules on business use in the building’s management plan, whether your activity can be carried out in a residence, and the tax office inspection. The company address is also published in the trade registry, so your home address becomes public.

Before you register your home as the company address

  • Landlord’s consent: If you rent, written consent from the landlord may be required to register the home as a company address.
  • Building management plan: Using a flat registered as a residence for business may depend on the management plan and on the owners’ decision under the Condominium Law. A desk-based business without client traffic and a business that receives clients can be treated differently.
  • Type of activity: Some activities need a licence, a permit or specific premises and may not be possible in a residence.
  • Privacy: The head office address is registered and published in the trade registry, so anyone can see it; your home address appears on invoices, your website and official records.
  • Inspection and post: The tax office inspects at your home, and official letters and parcels arrive there. If you are out during the day, following these becomes harder.
  • Moving: If you move house, you also need to change the company address (see the address change section).

3. Can several companies share one address?

Generally yes; several companies can be registered at the same address, which is common in business centres, office towers and virtual offices. Each company is expected to have its own agreement or permission to use the address and to pass its own inspection. The tax administration may look more closely at addresses that host many companies, so keep each company’s activity separate and documented.

  • Separate agreement: Each company’s right to use the address should rest on its own agreement or permission.
  • Separate identification: At inspection, each company may be expected to be identifiable at the address (post, the office team’s knowledge and so on).
  • Two companies of the same owner: They can share an address, but their transactions and records must stay separate.

A virtual office is a business-centre model: one address serves different companies, each using it under its own service agreement. Telling the office team your trade name as soon as it is final helps the officer identify your company quickly at inspection.

4. How do you change a company address?

A company address change generally takes three steps: the competent body of the company resolves to change the address, the resolution is registered with the trade registry and published, and then the tax office record is updated and an inspection may take place at the new address. If the new address is in another district or province, an amendment to the articles of association and a change of tax office may be needed.

Limited and joint-stock companies, step by step

  • Resolution: Within the same district, an address change is usually decided by the managers or the board. If the head office moves to another district or province, an amendment to the articles of association and a general assembly resolution may be required.
  • Registration and publication: The resolution is registered with the trade registry and published in the Turkish Trade Registry Gazette.
  • Tax office: The change is reflected at the tax office; if the new address falls under another tax office, your file moves there and an inspection may take place at the new address. Check the legal notification period with your accountant.
  • Other records: Where relevant, the social security workplace record, chamber registration and any municipal licence are updated.

Sole proprietorships

The steps differ for sole proprietorships with and without a trade registry entry. The change is usually made by notifying the tax office and an inspection may follow at the new address; your accountant usually handles this online.

What to update after an address change

  • Invoice and e-invoice details, letterhead, business cards
  • Banks and payment providers
  • E-notification (e-tebligat) and registered e-mail (KEP) details
  • Website, Google Business Profile and other maps
  • The notice address in client and supplier contracts

Costs

An address change may involve trade registry fees, a publication fee and notary costs. These amounts are updated every year; ask the trade registry office or your accountant for the current figures.

5. Can a virtual office address be used as a company address?

Yes. A virtual office gives your company a business address that can be registered with the trade registry and reported to the tax office. You do not need to work there physically; your post and parcels are received on your behalf. Your activity still needs to suit a virtual office address, and the inspection arrangements should be agreed in advance.
